Course Overview
This course will advance your knowledge of carpentry practice whilst on site. Students will develop their woodwork skills as well as widen their knowledge of construction technology and tool maintenance. You will gain a general understanding of theory and develops the practical skills needed to work as a carpenter or joiner. This includes hanging doors, fixing architrave and skirting, constructing kitchen and bathroom units and setting out and fixing roofs.

What Qualifications Or Experience Do I Need?
Most students will have achieved level one and will be required to complete an interview before progressing onto the programme. During the interview you will need to demonstrate the ability to work at this level through completion of an aptitude test. You will also be asked to complete some further practical exercises to show you are suitable for the programme. Where learners have previous experience in the field there may be the possibility of direct entry at level two which will be discussed at interview.

What Will I Learn?
This qualification supports the learner to attain fundamental and transferable practical skills with associated underpinning knowledge. The learner will cover knowledge in three core subject areas: - Health, safety and welfare - Information, quantities and communication - Construction technology The Learner will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in: - Preparing and using carpentry and joinery portable power tools - First fixing operations - Second fixing operations - Structural carcassing operations - Maintenance to non-structural carpentry work If you haven't obtained this already, you will also complete the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment Upon full completion this will enable you to apply for a Construction Operative Card meaning that you can work on site. 16-18 year olds who have not yet achieved a grade 4 (C grade) in English and Mathematics will also be required to continue with their studies in these areas. 16 - 18 year olds are also required to take part in our work experience programme, this enables learners to gain experience in the industry through our many exciting, contextualised opportunities.

How Will I Learn?
You will learn through practical delivery in our state of the art carpentry and joinery workshop, theory delivery in our classrooms and open learning environments and by partaking in community projects.

How Will I Be Assessed?
You will complete synoptic practical assessment and theory examination.

Where Could This Course Lead To?
The course will provide you with the necessary skills, training and knowledge to progress onto Site Carpentry Level 3 Diploma, gain an Apprenticeship in Site Carpentry or move into employment in the construction industry.
