Course Overview
This qualification allows the learner to acquire knowledge and craft skills of electrical installation. It does not require occupational evidence from the workplace, so is suitable for learners who currently do not work within the electrical Industry (but may wish to do so). It will give the learner an opportunity to practice and be assessed in a secure environment on the installation of wiring systems together with the relevant theory of electrical installation. The learner has the opportunity to utilise the IET On-Site Guide with some of the units and also acquire the knowledge of electrical science and principles. This qualification is for: - learners who currently do not work within the electrical industry (but may wish to do so) - those who wish to acquire new knowledge and skills.

What Qualifications Or Experience Do I Need?
To complete the course you will need to undertake an interview. During the interview you will need to demonstrate the ability to work at level 2 through completion of the construction faculty level 2 aptitude test. At interview you will also be required to demonstrate the practical dexterity and skills to work at level 2, this will be done through a suitable practical diagnostic.

What Will I Learn?
This Diploma has five mandatory units, which between them cover health and safety, electrical installation theory and technology, electrical installation methods, procedures and requirements, electrical installation craft skills and electrical science and principles. Within the qualification the learner will have the opportunity to utilise the IET On-Site Guide, and also be introduced to how regulations (including BS 7671) affect electrical installation. The qualification covers standard circuits as described in the On-Site Guide. You will also complete the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment, upon full completion this enables you to apply for a construction operative card, enabling you to work on site. If you are 16-18 you will also be required to complete further Maths and English until you reach level 4 (C Grade). 16-18 years olds are also required to complete a work placement and the college has many exciting opportunities for this which are related to the vocational subjects studied by our learners.

How Will I Learn?
The course is delivered through practical workshop sessions, theory sessions and real life community projects.

How Will I Be Assessed?
EAL online examinations, on-going assignments and a synoptic practical assessment upon completion of the course.

Where Could This Course Lead To?
Upon completion the learner can progress onto level 3 electrical installations (subject to interview), an apprenticeship or move into another construction trade.
